ABOUT ME

RACHEL McCRINDLE
KILN FORMED GLASS ARTIST
BASED IN CAVERSHAM, READING, UK

Rachel McCrindle is a Caversham-based glass artist specialising in kiln formed glass which involves the shaping and fusing of glass powders, fragments, sheets or billets in a kiln under controlled heat programmes to create jewellery, art pieces or other decorative items.

The kiln typically heats glass to temperatures of between 640 degrees C and 830 degrees C with even the most simple simple single firing pieces being in the kiln for 12-24 hours and more complex pieces requiring lengthier or several firings across multiple days with further design work between firings.

Rachel’s work has been influenced by her own experiences and learning as well as being inspired and enhanced through undertaking Masterclasses with world leading glass artists including Kate Clements (US), Alice Benvie Gebhart (US); Catherine Dunstan (UK); Evelyn Gottschall Baker (US), Claire Hall (UK); Marina Hanser (Austria); Joshua Kerley (UK), Bob Leatherbarrow (Canada); Silvia Levenson (Argentina-Italy); Alison Lowry (Ireland); Zhenning Li (China); Lois Manno (US); Joanna Manousis (UK-US); Richard Parrish (US), Amanda Simmons (UK), Nathan Sandberg (US) and Helen Slater Stokes (UK).

Her work is diverse in its form and techniques but is frequently inspired by nature and the environment.

She is a member of the Glass Art Society and the Contemporary Glass Society.
